How to use cannabis? It is time to bust the great myth and the importance of correct use of the plant

Medical cannabis therapy is given to patients due of quite a wide range of symptoms and diseases. How should it be used? The present solutions on the market are extremely varied, from food to drops. We have prepared a short review for you of the possible ways, benefits and disadvantages

The guideline for guiding patients in the use of medical cannabis is that the number of responses we expect to see is the same as the number of people using it. Why? Because every patient responds differently to different types of cannabis, depending on their physical and medical history, the problem they suffer from, the nature of the strain and many other variables. Precisely for this reason, the use of cannabis is an individual matter that requires the guidance and advice of professionals on the path to reaching the right strain, the right dose and the optimal method of use.

All roads lead to serenity

No matter how you choose to use your cannabis, the key objective must be relief of symptoms and producing calm. To do so, there are various ways to use the plant, including smoking, vaping, oil and other alternatives.

Smoking is the classic and most popular way of using cannabis, whereby the plant’s active ingredients (THC) are actually inhaled into the lungs. The plant can be smoked “neat” without any additives or tobacco, so as to reduce the burning sensation in the throat when smoking. The significant advantage of smoking is the immediate effect of the active ingredient and its best utilization. The disadvantages are mainly inhaling smoke into the lungs (particularly when choosing to add tobacco) and the passive effect on people nearby.

Cannabis is vaped using a dedicated vaporizer, which has gained momentum in recent years and is a healthier alternative to smoking. A vaporizer is a device that vaporizes the plant’s active ingredients by heating them. The clear advantage is the immediate effect like smoking, maximum control of the dose, and not inhaling smoke into the lungs, which is replaced by steam. Many patients who do not want to smoke have found great value in vaping. The disadvantages of this method are the cost of the device and the need to carry it everywhere, which may cause mobility difficulties. The devices come in different sizes and a variable price range, and it is important to ensure that the device you choose has Standards Institution certification and Ministry of Health approval.

Cannabis oil is an excellent solution for children and patients who avoid inhaling the plant into their lungs. The method of use of drops is taking them directly in the mouth. Some choose to dilute them in a beverage or food. The disadvantages are the bitter taste of the oil and its effect only 30 minutes after use. The advantages are a longer lasting effect of 4-6 hours, not having to inhale smoke into to the lungs and in fact, not having to smoke at all.

And now the greatest myth of all: Is cannabis with a higher percentage of active ingredient (THC) really the best?

The Ministry of Health allows marketing cannabis inflorescence with a THC concentration of up 24.4%. The higher the percentage of the active ingredient – the stronger the effect. But is it true for everyone? Although the percentage of active ingredient in a plant is important, it is not the only criterion in deciding which should be used and which dose. Each strain has different genetics, a different composition of ingredients and properties that assist with different problems and symptoms.

Therefore, before deciding which strain to use, how much to use and how – it is recommended to consult professionals who will establish a treatment plan for you, personalized to your medical needs and your personal suitability.
